Buildings Programme 2026: renovation subsidies in Geneva

15 June 2026 8 min read

The Buildings Programme (Programme Bâtiment) is Switzerland's leading subsidy scheme for energy-efficient renovation. Jointly funded by the Confederation and the cantons, it helps property owners cut their energy consumption. In Geneva, the 2026 rates are especially attractive for insulation, heat pumps and window replacement. Here is everything you need to know before applying.

What is the Buildings Programme?

The Buildings Programme funds works that improve the energy efficiency of the building envelope and replace fossil-fuel heating with renewables. In Geneva it is administered by the cantonal energy office (OCEN) and supplemented by specific cantonal grants.

2026 rates in the canton of Geneva

Amounts vary by type of work and performance achieved. As an indication for 2026:

- Insulation of façades, roofs and floors: roughly 40 to 90 CHF per m² depending on the element. - Replacing windows with high-performance triple glazing: around 70 to 100 CHF per m². - Installing a heat pump to replace oil or gas heating: from 3,000 to 12,000 CHF depending on power and technology. - Connection to a district heating network: an additional flat-rate bonus.

These amounts can be combined and, in some cases, stacked with cantonal and federal tax deductions.

Eligibility conditions

- The building must generally have been built or authorised before 2000 for most insulation measures. - The application must be submitted before works begin: no retroactive subsidy is granted. - Energy values (U-coefficient) must meet the canton's minimum thresholds. - Works must be carried out by qualified firms with detailed supporting documents.

The application process step by step

1. Have an energy assessment or detailed quote prepared by an approved professional. 2. Submit the application online to the Geneva Buildings Programme before any work starts. 3. Wait for the grant confirmation before launching the works. 4. Carry out the works in line with the approved file. 5. Submit invoices and proof to receive the subsidy payment.
